Deer Class - Week 4

This was quite a busy week for Deer class, with a Zoo trip on Tuesday and Student of the Month Assembly on Wednesday.  The students were all so excited about their outing.  I think the opportunity to use their English vocabulary outside of the classroom and to do something fun and new with their classmates, was the thing they loved most.  At the zoo, we saw ducks, pigs, chickens, koalas, monkeys, a water buffalo, an iguana, an alpaca, a donkey, rabbits, guinea pigs, and parrots.  The students also wer able to play with the water pump.  On the bus ride there and when we were returning to the bus with all sang together 'The Wheels on the Bus' song.  Everyone had a lovely time and that covered our Science for week 4

At the student of the month assembly we had a relay race that involved cars, balls, and some very happy children.  Deer class came in second place in the race.  Great job!  Also, I would like to make a special announcement.  Deer class's student of the month for September was Rueben. Great job, Rueben, we are so proud of you!

In math for week 4, we talked all about the triangle.  We counted the sides of the triangles and practiced making triangles out of different objects.  Finally, we made triangles out of pipe cleaners.  The students really enjoyed playing with the pipe cleaners.

Week 4's English lesson was all about the weather.  We talked about weather temperatures: hot, warm, cool, and cold.  We learned the weather song.  Then we talked about cloudy, rainy, sunny, and windy weather.  We learned about wearing sweaters when it's cold, turning on the air-conditioning when it gets hot, and using an umbrella when it is rainy.  We made pictures of a rainy day with giant rain drops too.

In phonics, we learned about the letters "e" and "f".  Our phonics songs this week were, "elbows everywhere, e-e-e” and “Freddy’s five fish, f-f-f”.  We learned egg, elephant, envelope, elbow, exit, fan, fish, finger, Freddy, and five.  The students played lots of games to reinforce their phonics skills, including their favorite, "Doggie, doggie, where's your bone" a game in which the students need to use their new vocabulary to discover who is hiding the "bone" (which, in our class, is actually a marker).

In song this week, we learned "The Wheels on the Bus" and the "Mr. Sun" songs.

We also read the story of Silly Willy who likes to wear his clothes in all the wrong places, with his pants on his head, his gloves on his nose, and more.

And now for this week's Star Students...Randy*, Rueben*, Elly *, Jimmy, Candy, and Stella. Great job!  Keep up the good work! (* indicates multiple times)
